National Mathematics Day – 2025 Celebrated at MVGR College of Engineering

The Mathematics Division of the Department of Science and Humanities, MVGR College of Engineering (Autonomous), celebrated National Mathematics Day – 2025 with great enthusiasm on 22 December 2025, commemorating the birth anniversary of the legendary mathematician Sri Srinivasa Ramanujan. The celebration highlighted the significance of mathematical thinking and its vital role in engineering, innovation, and everyday life.
As part of the celebrations, the Mathematics Division organized a “Test of Intelligence and Engineering Mathematics” on 17 December 2025 for academic toppers from all branches of II Year B.Tech. The objective of the test was to encourage analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and the practical application of mathematical concepts among students. The event also served as a platform to recognize and reward academic excellence across disciplines.
The program was graced by Prof Y M C Sekhar, Principal; Prof Ch Purnachandra Rao, Dean (A&E), Dr B M B Krushna, HOD of Science & Humanities; Heads of various departments, faculty members and student participants.
The celebration commenced with the garlanding of the statue of Sri Srinivasa Ramanujan by the Principal and faculty members. The solemn tribute created an atmosphere of reverence and inspiration, honoring Ramanujan’s extraordinary contributions to mathematics and his enduring legacy that continues to inspire generations.
The Test of Intelligence and Engineering Mathematics was conducted for the top five academic performers from each discipline. The winners of the competition were:
- First Prize: Pinninti Geetha Spandana (ECE)
- Second Prize: Sigampalli Manisri (Chemical Engineering)
- Third Prize: Sambana Charmila (CSD - Data Engineering )
Hearty congratulations were extended to all the winners for their commendable performance.
The event witnessed the participation of around 110 students and the presence of 40 faculty members. This was followed by a series of insightful and motivating addresses by the dignitaries.
Dr. B. M. B. Krushna, Head of the Department of Science and Humanities, paid rich tribute to Sri Srinivasa Ramanujan and emphasized the importance of hard work, perseverance, and determination. He highlighted the relevance of mathematics in career-oriented competitive examinations and encouraged students to strengthen their problem-solving and critical thinking skills to tackle real-world challenges.
Prof Ch Purnachandra Rao, Dean (A&E), spoke about the life and achievements of Sri Srinivasa Ramanujan, emphasizing how his self-belief, discipline, and dedication led to path-breaking contributions to mathematics. He urged students to draw inspiration from Ramanujan’s journey and apply those values in their academic and personal lives.
In his address, Prof Y M C Sekhar, Principal, underlined the fundamental role of mathematics in engineering education. He explained how mathematical concepts enable engineers to analyze, model, and simulate complex systems, paving the way for innovation, technological advancement, and sustainable solutions.
The program concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates to the top three achievers of the “Test of Intelligence and Engineering Mathematics,” marking a successful and inspiring celebration of National Mathematics Day – 2025.
