The Department of Civil Engineering, MVGR College of Engineering (Autonomous), Vizianagaram, successfully organized a Five-Day Online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on β€œDigital Transformation in Civil Engineering: AI, Sustainable Infrastructure and Geospatial Technologies” from 15th to 19th September 2026.

The FDP was organized with the objective of providing faculty members, research scholars, professionals, and other participants with an understanding of emerging developments and applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Geospatial Technologies, Digital Twins, Water Resources Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Marine Geotechnics, Climate Change, and Sustainable Infrastructure.

The programme was formally inaugurated on 15th September 2026 in the presence of Prof. Y. M. C. Sekhar, Principal, Mr. Rajendra Prasad Singh, Head of the Department and FDP Convenor; Prof. S. Chandramouli, FDP Co-Convenor; Dr. A. Varaprasad, FDP Coordinator; Mr. T. P. Sreejani, FDP Coordinator; and faculty members of the Department of Civil Engineering.

The five-day FDP featured technical sessions delivered by distinguished academicians, researchers, scientists, and industry experts from premier institutions and research organizations. The programme brought together experts from IITs, ISRO, CSIR-NEERI, the Central Ground Water Board, and the geospatial industry, providing participants with diverse perspectives on emerging technologies and their applications in Civil Engineering.

The distinguished resource persons and invited experts included Prof. J. Adinarayana Centre of Studies in Resources Engineering, IIT –Bombay; Sri Gowtham Gollapalli, Co-Founder of Kaiinos, a geospatial intelligence company; Dr. Pradeep Kumar D, IIT Jodhpur; Dr. Thejesh Kumar G, IIT Madras; Dr. Akshay Gupta, IIT Jodhpur; Dr. A. V. S. S. Anand, Retired Scientist, Central Ground Water Board (CGWB); Dr. Rakesh Kadaverugu, Scientist-E, CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI); Dr. Sovik Das, IIT Delhi; Dr. YVNK Murthy, Distinguished Scientist, ISRO; and Prof. Pennan Chinnasamy, IIT Bombay.

The technical sessions covered a wide range of contemporary and interdisciplinary themes, including Digital Transformation in Agricultural Water Resources Management, AI and Machine Learning for Groundwater Prediction, Digital Twins, GIS and GeoAI, AI/ML Applications in Transportation Engineering, Climate Change Research, Geospatial Technologies in Civil Engineering, Marine Geotechnics, Emerging Contaminants in Aquatic Systems, and Digital Twins for Smart Cities.

The programme provided participants with valuable insights into the integration of emerging digital technologies with conventional Civil Engineering practices. The sessions highlighted the role of data-driven approaches, artificial intelligence, geospatial intelligence, digital modelling, and sustainable engineering practices in improving decision-making, infrastructure planning, resource management, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience.

The expert interactions and technical discussions also emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary research and technology-driven solutions in addressing complex and evolving challenges in the fields of Civil Engineering and infrastructure development.

The FDP witnessed 300+ active participants, including faculty members, research scholars, and professionals from various institutions. The enthusiastic participation, interactive sessions, and discussions provided an effective platform for knowledge sharing, professional development, academic interaction, and research collaboration among participants and experts.

The programme concluded with a Valedictory Session on 19th September 2026, marking the successful completion of five days of technical deliberations, expert lectures, and interactive learning.

The Department of Civil Engineering expressed its sincere gratitude for the support and encouragement extended by the Principal, MVGR College of Engineering, Head of the Department, FDP organizing committee, distinguished resource persons, participants, faculty members, and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.

The FDP served as a valuable platform for exploring the rapidly evolving role of Artificial Intelligence, Geospatial Technologies, Digital Twins, Sustainable Infrastructure, and Digital Transformation in Civil Engineering. The programme is expected to encourage further academic collaborations, research initiatives, professional development, and technology-driven innovations in the emerging areas of Civil Engineering.
