βShe Builds the Futureβ: Alumni Interaction Inspires Aspiring Women Civil Engineers
The Department of Civil Engineering, in collaboration with the Women Empowerment Cell, MVGR College of Engineering, organized the inaugural lecture of the βShe Builds the Futureβ lecture series on 8 August 2026. The initiative aims to inspire and empower girl students to confidently pursue careers in core Civil Engineering by providing them with opportunities to learn from accomplished women alumni and professionals.
Mr. Kalyan AVS, In-charge, Department Alumni Committee, introduced the lecture series and explained its objectives. Mr. Rajendra Prasad Singh, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, encouraged the students to draw inspiration from the achievements of successful women alumni. He highlighted the pride and satisfaction associated with serving as a government Civil Engineering professional and emphasized the opportunity to contribute to society through meaningful engineering projects and public service.
The inaugural lecture was delivered by Mrs. Korada Deepika, an alumna of MVGR College of Engineering from the 2011β15 batch, who currently serves as Assistant Executive Engineer, O/o Superintending Engineer, TTPR Circle, APWRD, Vizianagaram. Sharing her journey from being a student at MVGR to becoming a government engineering officer, Mrs. Deepika spoke about her preparation for competitive examinations, the challenges she faced, and the setbacks she overcame along the way.
She emphasized the importance of consistency, hard work, discipline, and determination in achieving career goals. Drawing from her professional experience, she highlighted the significance of teamwork, effective communication, responsibility, continuous learning, practical skills, and proficiency in Civil Engineering software.
The session was attended by around 60 students from the Department of Civil Engineering, who actively participated in the interactive lecture. Students raised questions related to career opportunities, competitive examinations, and professional growth. Mrs. Deepika encouraged them to strengthen their fundamentals by referring to standard textbooks and developing strong conceptual knowledge through independent learning. She also emphasized the importance of practical skills and advised students not to rely completely on AI tools for their learning.
Her experiences and valuable insights motivated the students to overcome challenges, strengthen their technical and practical competencies, and confidently explore career opportunities in core Civil Engineering.
The inaugural session marked a meaningful beginning to the βShe Builds the Futureβ lecture series, reinforcing the Department of Civil Engineeringβs commitment to empowering girl students and encouraging them to pursue diverse and rewarding career opportunities in Civil Engineering. The interaction also provided students with valuable real-world perspectives and inspiration from a successful woman alumna and government engineering professional.
